Lucky 13

Filed under: Uncategorized — shrewspeaks @ 12:23 am

Last Saturday Night, Lucky 13 opened up for KJ Denhert.  These three singer/songwriters remind me of The Roches.

Kathy Kreger

Susan DeVita

Marci Geller

With very sweet harmony and wry wit, Lucky 13’s songs sweep around the listener like a color chiffon scarf, soft, pleasing and packed with sublte colors of meaning.

Check them out at http://www.lucky13.fm/

KJ Denhert – Off.The.Hook.

Filed under: Uncategorized — shrewspeaks @ 4:06 am

Saturday night, I went to another Coffee With Conscience show.  This month the headliner was KJ Denhert.  How to describe her music…it’s like James Taylor, George Clinton, Phoebe Snow and Joni Mitchell all playing together in one body.

Apart from the moving lyrics and the steady funk backbeat, the biggest thrill seeing Ms. Denhert play is the obvious joy she gets from making music.  Her passion runs through to the marrow.

She calls her music “vibey”.  I don’t know what it means but I sure do know what it sounds and looks like…

Visit KJ Denert’s website here and give her music a listen, you won’t be sorry.

Black & White Flower Challenge

Filed under: Uncategorized — shrewspeaks @ 3:19 am

WOW…what were we thinking? This was hard!!!!! To see past the intensity of the two tone tulips or the variations of pink in the light colored tulips was a true challenge.  I started to process the light differently.

Here are three two toned tulips…

I photographed these first.  Looking back on them I am very disappointed with composition.  I think I was caught up in the novelty of the idea.  So, when I approached the light tulips, I really tried to position each blossom in a composition that showed the unique feature of the flower.
